Deep Creek Turk is about 2 sneaky minutes from the recently opened Coronet Loop bike track (it’s not marked from the track). Last week a few Turk Club families (5 adults and 6 children) stayed overnight – kids inside and parents in tents outside.

Toilet building

All go for this weekend (tomorrow). I have all the materials (with a few exceptions like flashings).

The general plan is:
Venue: 92 Centennial Ave, Arrowtown  Saturday 26th March.
10am – 12pm:  making the base frames and preparing the door jambs
12pm – 2pm:    making the structure / screwing it all together
2pm – 4pm:   Attaching the cladding, door, toilet seats etc
4pm onwards – fire up my pizza oven and have some dinner, drink beer etc!

Tools to bring (if you have them and it is easy, we don’t need too many):

  • Battery drill/torque drive (and drive bits)
  • Battery skill saw
  • Trestles / sawhorses

It is difficult to predict tasks because I don’t know how many people will turn up! The “lighter skilled” tasks such as painting will be in the middle of the day.

Feel free to join us in the evening for pizza. It is a good opportunity to meet people and discuss adventures!  I’ll make plenty of pizza dough so bring your favorite topping and something to drink.

Winter meetings

My goal with these is to get people together to talk about Turks and how best to visit them. I plan to have several people give short presentations (i.e. 10 pictures, 15 minutes) about their experiences visiting the Turks and doing the Mahu Whenua Traverse, some in summer and some in winter. Meetings will be held in Wanaka and Queenstown and possibly one online (zoom conference call) if there is interest.

Dates and times:
Wanaka:
b.effect Thursday 28th April at 7pm

Queenstown:
Cargo Brewery Tuesday, 3rd May 2022 7pm

Online:  to be confirmed

The Queenstown meeting will also serve as the AGM.

Tree planting

As well as joining the club by building toilets, building Turks or paying money you can also join by doing conservation work (10 hours in total) on the Mahu Whenua covenant. The Arrowtown Choppers organise a twice yearly planting event on Mahu Whenua so get involved.

To keep our systems straight please email us after the event if you want to be a member.

Technology

We have had a few issues with online bookings from some web browsers. The issues should now be solved (cross domain security for those with a technical mindset). Let me know if you are having problems.

There is still space for winter bookings (and plenty in autumn and next summer).

I am also still looking for somebody to help with things web, so get in touch if you have relevant skills!

Cheers
