| Work on the Turks has started. On Wednesday Kent, James (sorry, I didn’t workout your surnames), Glen Davis, Tyge (my son) and myself completed making the door and window jambs and got half way through making the foundation frame and the front deck. We finished the evening with some good pizza from my wood fired oven.
This Monday Anton Schmitz and myself will use a CNC cutter to make all the unusual shaped pieces of plywood for the floor and bunks. The tank will arrive this week (I am hoping before before Wednesday afternoon).
Tasks to achieve this week:
- Finish the foundation frame: add corner bracing, complete perimeter compression bracing, add tank guides.
- Finish the deck: screw on the decking timber (already cut to length)
- Build sub-floor structure
- Radius edges and sand bunk supports, bench and seats.
- Polyurethane bunk supports, bench and floor.
- Assemble window frame and complete door.
- Position and level tank. Cut openings for door and window
- Fit door and window jambs
- Fit sub floor structure and floor
I will be working on the Turk on both Tuesday afternoon from 4 pm and Wednesday afternoon from 4.30pm, this should give some options for people who cannot make Wednesday.

The weather isn’t looking too good for Wednesday however I still have hopes of firing up my pizza oven.
Things people can contribute/things required:
- A couple of additional orbital sanders for would be useful on Tuesday/Wednesday.
- My torque drive (Bosch green) is a bit low on grunt for driving in the 200mm screws required for the foundation frame. Be good if someone could bring something a bit more powerful.
- If you have some polyurethane sitting around that has not achieved the success in life that it deserves (i.e. hiding in a tin in the garage) then please consider donating it.
- I am investigating using spray foam to insulate this Turk as opposed to a closed cell sheet insulation product used previously. It is currently looking a bit expensive but I think would provide a superior result. If someone has the skills to apply such product get in contact (include “Insulation” in the email subject).
- The helicopter lift points for the tank require the centre drilling of 25.4 aluminium solid round (80mm long) with a 12mm drill. This job is a bit much for my Myford ML7 lathe (the chuck isn’t big enough). If someone wants to take this job on include “lathe” in the email subject. I can supply more details.
- I am around in Arrowtown over Easter and will be doing some work on the Turk. If you are interested include “Easter” in your email subject.
